Cycling in India – A Kiwi’s ANTAR YATRA (An Intimate Pilgrimage)

What travel basically does is, it tunes one’s brainwaves to a frequency for new experiences. We find ourselves finding new things about ourselves. We find the one abstract idea in the air and latch on to it. This becomes our guiding light in so many ways. Pushing us forward. Drawing that last straw of inspiration in a moment of absolute defeat and absolute isolation. It’s the reason we keep coming back for more. It’s the reason Kevin Duggan keeps coming back for more.

Veteran endurance athlete Kevin Duggan, from Australia, was first introduced to India due to the death of his sister somewhere within the inner reaches of Himachal Pradesh. The void created by the loss demanded a visit to the location and circumstances of her death. The sombre affair thus transformed into a kinetic connect with the mountains that never left this Aussie triathlete, bringing him back even at the age of 53.

A light-hearted talk with Kevin Duggan reveals his perspective and inclination to be healthy and fit to do the “crazy” things in life and to actually “live”. This time around, Duggan took to cycling his way across the Himalayas in order to explore India. His quest for travel through endurance cycling attained an undying character of its own, reshaping the idea of cycling holidays in India. Though easy going and slow paced, a cycling holiday need not take away from the grit of the sport.

Watch here, a candid conversation with a seasoned Iron Man – in the truest sense of the word. Working regularly on his fitness levels, Duggan poses quite the challenge to the status quo of modern athleticism. Come get a load of his personal encounters with the locals and with fellow travellers on the road less travelled.

Watch this young boy trail through the city of Manali on his downhill suspension bike, an improvement on adventure mountain cycling.
